Apply one coat of polyvinyl glue with a 2 inch paintbrush to the entire surface of the concrete backer board. Coat front and back of the board to ensure it does not absorb any tile adhesive. Then i took it outside and gave it one or two quick coats of spray with primer. Apply a thin coat of tile adhesive to the back of each tile and place it on the mastic.

When all of the tiles are down lightly press them into the mastic with your hands to set them. Install the cut tile just as you did the full size tile. Prepare grout powder by mixing it with water until it is the consistency of peanut butter. Lift a dollop of grout with a rubber grout float.

A rolling pin makes a nice tool for this purpose. Thinset mortar bonds backerboard sheets to the table and it also bonds tile with backerboard. Place the masonite on the thinset smooth side down and apply a light even pressure over the entire surface. I originally wanted to try to save the wood grain pattern on top but when i saw that tile i knew it d be perfect for this table.

Clean excess thinset from the edges of the table.
