Spray a five to ten foot section at a time because otherwise the gutters may dry before you have cleaned them. Aluminum readily welcomes a solution of warm water and acetic acid more commonly found in the kitchen as white vinegar after scooping the gunk from your gutters with the trowel mix a bucketful of solvent using 1 cup of vinegar for every 3 gallons of water. Once the mixture is applied to the gutters let it stay for 10 15 minutes before rinsing it off with a garden hose and a nozzle sprayer. Turn the nozzle on the bottle to clean.

Spray the gutters put on your safety glasses and don rubber gloves if your skin is particularly sensitive to cleaners. For aluminum try gutter zap which removes electrostatic bonded streaks with little scrubbing. It attacks the oxidation and not the paint or material. If you have aluminum gutters you ll want to be careful when choosing a chemical as some may cause aluminum to corrode.

Rinse the gutters with a hose. Use this solvent to scrub off the outer surface of your gutters with a stiff brush or a piece of cloth. On a windy day some of the spray might fly back into your face and you don t want this stuff in your eyes. A simple solution of water and white vinegar works very well for cleaning the outside of the gutters and won t corrode aluminum.

For that mix half cup of household liquid detergent with a half cup of bleach in two gallons of water.
