Installing Limestone Wall Tiles

1 guest room bathroom needs 40sf of 12x24 carrara marble tiles for floor and 120sf of 2x8 cement subway tiles for shower walls and floor. Adding a 10 percent buffer to your calculated surface area should provide enough tiles for a few bad cuts. Assuring the tiles are level. Press the tile against the wall and slide it up in down a little to ensure all the ridges are fully collapsed.

As you work your way along place tile spacers on all four sides of each tile so your grout lines will be consistent. This will insure the proper spacing in between the tiles. Lay some thinset on a notched trowel and spread it evenly on the wall and then lay your first piece of tile in place. Continue installing tiles in this manner.

Once you have the first section of tiles in place you can cut tiles out if you are going to add colored tiles. Press the tiles into the mortar in the pattern you determined in the dry fit. Once you have the right amount of limestone tiles prepare your room for tiling. Then start installing in a corner of the chalk lines.

Spread a thin layer of white latex additive thinset mortar over the area you want to install the limestone on. Attach stone or tile trim to the front edge of the tub with silicone to cover an uneven floor tub joint.

Take your time and work on the wall in 3 square foot sections. You will want to take extra care to protect the tiles from absorbing color from mortar and grout while you put them into place.
